CSI: The brain collector serial killer case

Game story:

"The last 3 months our peaceful city has been at the mercy of a new serial killer who identifies himself as the «Brain Collector». His confirmed victims so far include two renown artists. Both victims have marks of lobotomy on their skulls, a type of surgical operations. Apart from their brain that have been removed, the victims’ bodies are intact, without any signs of physical abuse, and with all their personal belongings (money, valuables, documents). Next to the victims’ dead bodies, crime investigators discovered various coded clues that were left there on purpose. Attempting to solve the case, teams of assistant detectives will have to decipher the killer's messages and discover who is going to be the next target, when and how the killer is planning to abduct his victim, but also useful clues about the killer's identity and motive before it is too late."

Learning objectives:

  • Acknowledging the anatomical parts of the brain (cerebral hemispheres, lobes, cerebellum, stem, fissures, sulci, gyri) in 3-dimensional models.

  • Familiarizing with modern medical imaging methods for brain structural analysis like MRI and fMRI.

  • Understanding the effect that various pathological conditions (e.g. Alzheimer disease, brain stroke, brain tumour) have on the structure of a brain.

  • Locating the position of several sensory areas (auditory, visual, olfactory) of the human brain.

  • Understanding the neurological condition of synaesthesia.
